Community pharmacy Patient Safety Group

Community pharmacy Patient Safety Group

July 4, 2017

I am writing to you today on behalf of the community pharmacy Patient Safety Group.  The Group is made up of 18 passionate community pharmacy Medication Safety Officers (MSOs) and has been in operation for just over two years now.  Each MSO is from one of the largest community pharmacy chains, as well as one from the National Pharmacy Association to represent independent pharmacies.

The Group provides a forum for these community pharmacy organisations, competitors in a commercial sense, to openly share and learn from each other when things go wrong, as well as from other sectors and industries, so that we can collectively improve patient care and reduce harm.  Over the last two years, we’ve made some real progress in driving safety culture and practice change across the sector and we’ve now set up a dedicated website www.pharmacysafety.org and Twitter page @PharmacySafety to promote our outputs.

The website provides further information about the Group and its members, and hosts a hub for our resources.  It also features a new discussion paper on safer medication delivery services which we’ve just launched – please let us know what you think!

Thank you for your support!

Kind regards,

Kate Livesey
