Patient safety poster: Paraffin-based skin products

Patient safety poster: Paraffin-based skin products

February 16, 2018

We’ve produced a patient safety poster that you may find useful when warning people about the fire risks of paraffin-based skin emollients if they get onto clothing, dressings or bedding. The need for pharmacy teams to warn people has been highlighted by a recent investigation by a regional BBC news team, which found that many paraffin-based skin emollients don’t feature any warning labels despite 37 deaths between 2010 and 2017.

In 2016, the MHRA published this reminder of the importance of health professionals warning people of the fire risk paraffin-based skin emollients. You may find our poster useful to display in your pharmacy or to hand out to people who are using these products.
