As the new NHS structure develops LPC members and officers will increasingly have to put forward a point of view or an objection, have to persuade and influence others as well as make a case or raise an issue – local authorities, CCGs, patient groups, local MPs, LATs etc. In all these instances you will need effective skills of presenting whether it is in a meeting, an open forum, presenting a seminar or speech or even a one to one conversation.

Although presentation skills is a regular PSNC event this training day covers a range of situations when presentation skills need to be employed. It will help you develop, and remind you of, the key skills and techniques of getting a message across whatever the occasion, for any length of time and to any number of people. With LPCs working with new organisations, possibly unfamiliar with community pharmacy, with competing providers, this seminar provides a powerful skill set to confidently promote and represent your contractors at this important time.

  • Core components of influencing
  • Brevity and clarity
  • Preparation
  • Targeting your audience
  • Direct and indirect audience involvement
  • Structuring your message
  • Handling questions
  • Dealing with objections
  • Opening and endings
  • Using persuasive language
  • Using visual aids
  • Tips and techniques for one to one conversations and small groups

This will be a practical and interactive seminar and there will be an opportunity for you to put the techniques into practice.

Seminar leader

The workshop is led by Phil Parry, a trainer who will be familiar to delegates who have attended PSNC training on Chairing and Meeting skills and Negotiation skills. Phil consistently achieves top feedback from LPC delegates and has a good understanding of the needs of LPCs and the environment in which they operate.

As a specialist in communication and interpersonal skills Phil has provided training for senior managers in blue chip companies both nationally and internationally.
