Class 2 MHRA drug alert – Lipitor (Atorvastatin) 80mg film-coated tablets (Pfizer) and atorvastatin 80mg film-coated tablets (Almus livery)

November 27, 2017

Drug alert number: EL (17) A/12

Date issued: 27th November 2017

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a class 2 wholesaler and pharmacy level medicines recall, to be actioned within 48 hours, for certain batches of:

  • Lipitor (atorvastatin) 80mg film-coated tablets, pack size 1 x 28 (Pfizer); and
  • atorvastatin 80mg film-coated tablets, pack size 1 x 28, (Almus livery)

The two companies are recalling the specified batches as a precaution due to an out of specification result for microbiological testing during routine stability studies on a batch of the product which was not released to the market. Remaining stock of the batches should be quarantined and returned to the original supplier for credit.
