CPPE Corner: New Dementia focal point programme

CPPE Corner: New Dementia focal point programme

January 24, 2020

A popular training programme on dementia support returns to the Centre for Postgraduate Pharmacy Education (CPPE) focal point series for 2020. We spoke to Sarah Evans, Learning development pharmacy technician at CPPE, to find out more.

We are delighted to announce that we have relaunched our popular Dementia focal point programme in a new and refreshed format.

There are 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over one million by 2025. Each person diagnosed with dementia will experience dementia differently, and pharmacy professionals can help to improve the outcomes and support the independence of a person living with dementia.

Our Dementia programme will support you to better understand the different types of dementia and the associated risk factors. The programme will also help you to describe the lifestyle changes that can reduce the risk of developing dementia and how you can support people and carers to adopt them.

On completion of the programme, you will be able to recognise the signs and symptoms of different types of dementia, disease progression and the importance of an early diagnosis, as well as being able to apply a holistic approach and outline the pharmacological treatment options for the management of dementia.

CPPE focal point programmes are designed to give you short, clinically-focused learning sessions and they will help you learn with your colleagues and improve the services you offer your patients.

When you book on to this workshop you will be able to access the resources that you need to complete your learning. At the workshop your facilitator will provide any materials for you to refer to and complete during the event.
