Over half a million flu vaccinations administered in community pharmacy!

October 4, 2017

Community pharmacists have now administered over 500,000 flu vaccinations during this season’s Flu Vaccination Service in under five weeks.

Data received this morning from PharmOutcomes and Sonar Informatics has confirmed that pharmacy teams have now hit the 500,000 mark, although the total number of vaccinations administered will be even higher as some pharmacy teams are not using the electronic systems to record administration of vaccines.

As of the 22nd September 2017, 8,936 contractors had signed up on the NHS Business Services Authority’s website to provide the Flu Vaccination Service.

PSNC Director of NHS Services Alastair Buxton said:

‘Half a million flu vaccinations is a significant milestone; and to get there in just a few weeks is an absolutely brilliant achievement by community pharmacy teams, especially at a time when we know they have never been busier or under more pressure. Once again community pharmacy teams are showing just how dedicated they are to offering the best service possible to patients; and just what pharmacy can do if given the right opportunities.

Well done to all pharmacy contractors, pharmacy teams, LPCs and others for helping community pharmacy to build on the success of last year’s service and reach this milestone so quickly. I am looking forward to seeing the number go up even higher as we move into winter.’
