Promoting pharmacy to MPs: PSNC and others to host roundtable events

September 20, 2019

Over the next fortnight PSNC and the other national community pharmacy representative bodies will be making the case for pharmacy at both the Labour and Conservative Party Conferences.

PSNC, the Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies (AIM), the Company Chemists’ Association (CCA) and the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) are jointly hosting roundtable events at both conferences to explore the role of pharmacies in preventing ill health.

This topic links closely with the Government’s Green Paper for prevention for which the consultation is now open, and the events will provide a chance to brief guests on the track record of community pharmacy in the public health arena and to raise potential opportunities for expansion in the future.

Parliamentarians, representatives from national charities and patient groups have been invited to attend the two #preventioninpharmacy roundtables. The events will encourage discussion on the importance of local providers working together to promote good health, before considering ways in which the community pharmacy sector can help to deliver the prevention agenda.

Learnings and recommendations from the two events will be compiled into a report, along with a set of next steps, to be published in due course.

PSNC Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Zoe Long, said:

“Our #preventioninpharmacy party conference events will provide a platform for the community pharmacy organisations to promote the value of pharmacy teams, particularly in helping the NHS to meet key prevention and public health goals.

We are looking forward to using the events, and the wider party conferences, as a chance for community pharmacy to engage with politicians and to continue to build support and advocates for the sector.”
