Description
The service aims to deliver opportunistic, initial alcohol screening to service users using the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) and Alcohol: How Much is Too Much form.
Where the initial screening identifies that the service user's alcohol consumption could pose a risk to their health, the appropriately trained member of staff will deliver an alcohol brief intervention or refer to Pathways to Recovery for specialist support as appropriate.
Service Users are also provided with information, advice and support that encourages them to drink within recommended limits or to abstain from alcohol.

Training
Pharmacists delivering the service are required to complete the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) open learning programme on Alcohol Misuse.
Other staff employed by the Service Provider and involved in the delivery of the Service are required, as a minimum, to have:
- a Chemist Counter Assistant qualification or to be educated at NVQ level or above; and
- completed the pharmacy Alcohol Identification and Brief Advice e-learning package available through the Alcohol Learning Centre.
All staff involved in the delivery of the service must attend any additional training as directed by the Council.
