Description

Please note this service is commissioned across Cheshire and Merseyside by the British Heart Foundation. Therefore, the following LPCs have the same service in their areas:

  • Cheshire & Wirral LPC;
  • Halton, St Helens & Knowsley LPC;
  • Liverpool LPC; and
  • Sefton LPC.

The project is linked to a British Heart Foundation Blood Pressure Innovation Award bid that was made by the local public health organisation (Champs) as the project ties in with one of the key priorities for the local Sustainability and Transformation Partnership/ NHS 5 Year Forward View agenda around blood pressure screening. It is a Cheshire and Merseyside-wide screening project which is being led by the Mersey Local Professional Network chair, Hassan Argomandkhah with all of the LPCs collaborating on its development.

Pharmacies will be able to measure people's blood pressure and their heartbeat using equipment provided to them.

To be eligible to take part in this service, contractors are required to be accredited Healthy Living Pharmacies (HLPs).

The aims of this project are to:

  • screen a minimum of 3,000 recorded BP screening measurements across 120 HLPs by March 2019; amd
  • evaluate the contribution of HLPs to the screening programme.

In order to be eligible, patients must be:

  • 18 years and above and not already being treated for hypertension;
  • people directed/referred by another project partner: Fire & Rescue service, Warrington BP kiosks, or Halton health trainers.

People identified as either having high or very high blood pressure or having irregular heartbeat will be advised according to Cheshire & Merseyside guidelines.
