Description

There are two elements to this service, a selection of pharmacies providing a rota system during ‘out of hours’ and one 100 hour pharmacy holding stock for access during normal hours.

All pharmacies providing the service will hold a specified list of medicines required to ensure that users of this service have prompt access to these medicines in response to valid NHS prescriptions being presented. The pharmacy operating within a rota system for out of hour periods specified and is then able to supply clinicians, patients and carers. The clinician attending the patient contacts the pharmacist on call to alert them to the need to dispense a prescription and identify who will be presenting the prescription. The pharmacy will provide information and advice to the user, carer and clinician. They may also refer to specialist centres, support groups or other health and social care professionals where appropriate. During normal opening hours, one 100 hour pharmacy will hold the stock ensuring prompt access and continuity of supply.
