Services Database Electronic Repeat Dispensing Plus Service (eRD+) (Eastbourne, Hailsham & Seaford CCG and Hastings & Rother CCG areas)

Service ID

134359

Description

The service will support patients to make better use of their medicines by incentivising extra support from the community pharmacist and promoting feedback to the GP practice. Messages such as “only order what you need” will help to reduce waste and community pharmacists will encourage patients to only order “when required” medicines when they need them. The service will also improve communication between GPs and community pharmacies for the benefits of both parties and their patients.

Community pharmacists will use the process of electronic repeat dispensing (eRD) to explore compliance with patients and will seek to ensure that “when required” medication is only dispensed when needed by the patient. Pharmacies will identify suitable patients to transfer to eRD and those pharmacies operating a “managed repeat” system will be encouraged to transfer these patients to eRD.
