Description

The overall aim is to promote the use of, and maintain access to, emergency hormonal contraception (EHC) in order to reduce the number of unintended conceptions among women of all ages living in Manchester.

Contractors offering emergency hormonal contraception as detailed in this specification will:

  • promote the free EHC scheme;
  • consult with clients attending for EHC and issue and supply levonorgesterol 1500mcg tablet in accordance with the Patient Group Direction (PGD) issued by Manchester City Council as and when appropriate;
  • ensure that clients receive information and advice about regular methods of contraception including long-acting, reliable methods such as implants and intrauterine devices and how to obtain them;
  • ensure that clients receive information and advice about sexually transmitted infections and how to obtain sexual health screening; and
  • ensure that clients receive information and advice about condoms and are offered up to 12 condoms.

Training

The Contractor is required to ensure that all pharmacists participating in the provision of the emergency hormonal scheme undertake relevant learning and training – e.g. CPPE modules relating to the provision of EHC so they are able to complete the Declaration of Competence (DoC) for the service.
