Description
Pharmacists will supply Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) when appropriate to clients aged 25 and under in line with the requirements of a locally agreed Patient Group Direction
(PGD).
The pharmacy will provide support and advise clients accessing the service, including advice on the avoidance of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) through safer sex and condom use, advice on the use of regular contraceptive methods and provide onward signposting where appropriate to services that provide long-term contraceptive methods and diagnosis and management of STIs.
Accredited pharmacies and pharmacists must be available to provide the service 6 days a week in the pharmacy for a minimum of 48 weeks of the year. It is expected that the service will be available for all the pharmacy opening hours (core and supplementary). All clients will be offered a Chlamydia screening postal kit and assistance with completing the form if needed.
The pharmacist will supply free condoms to the client at point of assessment. These are provided free by the Locala condom scheme.
