Service ID

Description

The ‘Home and Dry’ alcohol detoxification service aims to encourage a joint working relationship between GP practices, Addaction, and community pharmacies to offer a medically assisted alcohol detoxification to those patients who have the least complex dependencies and would benefit from being detoxed in their home environment.

The care pathway will consist of a range of options for each level of delivery as follows:

  1. Medical assessment and prescribing for the alcohol detoxification will be undertaken by either: a GP (working in conjunction with Addaction); or any prescriber working within Addaction including the Consultant Psychiatrist, the Primary Care Lead or a Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP).
  2. Monitoring of symptoms and titration of dose within the range prescribed during the duration of the alcohol withdrawal will be undertaken by: a community pharmacist, or a trained Addaction recovery coordinator/nurse, or a practice nurse.
