Services Database Influenza Vaccination Scheme (West Berkshire District Area)

The aims of this service are to:

• provide influenza vaccinations to identified groups of employees or others, within the Reading Borough Council boundaries and West Berkshire Unitary Authority employees who present to a participating pharmacy;
• to reduce the serious morbidity and mortality from influenza disease by reducing the transmission of influenza to vulnerable patients/clients;
• maximise the uptake of influenza vaccinations; and
• maintain business continuity by protecting front-line workers within the local authority and care settings.

All eligible people will be given a voucher from their employer entitling them to an influenza vaccination. Arrangements for influenza clinics to be held within the areas of interest below will be arranged between a pharmacy and West Berkshire Council:

• influenza clinics held within schools across West Berkshire catering for children and young people with learning difficulties and other associated difficulties;
• community pharmacies;
• care homes; and
• early years settings such as play schools and nurseries.

• Practical training with regard to the administration of the vaccine;
• Training with regard to basic life support and the recognition and initial treatment of anaphylaxis; and
• Training to undertake administration of medicines under Patient Group Directions.
