Description

The pharmacy contractor will provide a range of equipment as deemed appropriate by the Purchaser following national legislation and local policy as a “pick and mix” service. Service delivered will be compliant with NICE guidelines, Public Health England and other relevant clinical guidelines.

This may include:

  • Sharps Bins
  • 1ml syringe
  • 1ml fixed needle syringe (MyInjector)
  • 2ml syringe
  • Orange needles (different lengths)
  • Blue needle (different lengths)
  • Green needles (different lengths)
  • Brown needles (different lengths)
  • Spoons (with filter)
  • Sterile water
  • Swabs
  • Citric sachets
  • Vitamin C sachets
  • Condoms
  • Lubricant

The pharmacy contractor will facilitate the service user’s access to information and advice on minimising harm, general health and health promotion. This includes injecting site management and bacterial infections, safer sex and STIs, transmission risks of HIV, and Hepatitis B and C, testing for blood-borne viruses, and Hepatitis B immunisation.

Training

The  pharmacy contractor has a duty to ensure that pharmacists and all support staff involved in the provision of this service have the relevant knowledge and are appropriately trained in the delivery of this service. This includes attendance at training recommended or provided by the Commissioner, which is delivered by the Citywide Harm Reduction Service.
