Description

The aim of this service is to improve disease control in patients with asthma and COPD through effective inhaler technique and improved patient understanding of their prescribed medicines.

This service consist of the following two stages:

1. First Visit - MUR

The MUR consultation should meet the standard service specification.
2. Second Visit (Follow up review consultation, on site in pharmacy (not by telephone))

The aim of the follow up review consultation is to determine whether the patient’s symptom control has improved, and whether they are able to use their inhalers effectively.

Training

Pharmacists conducting the MURs must be accredited to do so in line with national guidance.

Pharmacists providing this service are required to have attended the CCG/CPPE training on inhaler technique, including training on the use of the In Check® device. The In Check® device will be provided to the pharmacy by the CCG, where necessary.

Pharmacists offering this service may wish to access the CPPE programme on Respiratory Disease.
