Description
The service is tiered as follows:
- Level 1: C-card and chlamydia testing; and
- Level 2: level 1 plus provision of emergency hormonal contraception (EHC), pregnancy testing and contraceptive advice.
The C-card scheme offers free condoms for 13-25- year olds in Coventry.
Chlamydia testing is provided under the National Chlamydia Screening Programme and provides free testing for 15-24 years living in Coventry.
Pharmacists can provide EHC (levonorgestrel or ulipristal acetate under a Patient Group Direction (PGD)) free for 13-25 year olds living in Coventry.
Pharmacies can provide free pregnancy testing to 13-25 year olds, in accordance with the Service Level Agreement (SLA).
Pharmacists can also provide information on contraceptive choices and signpost clients as appropriate.

Training
Pharmacists must attend local EHC PGD training as delivered Coventry City Council or demonstrate valid, up to date HAG accredited training (within 18 months of joining the scheme). Pharmacists delivering the ‘Asc’ scheme are expected to attend any additional training required to deliver the service.
Staff providing the C-Card service must have attended the C-Card training provided by Coventry City Council.
With regards to the chlamydia screening and treatment element of the service, the pharmacy named lead should attend local or HAG accredited chlamydia training and is responsible for cascading information and training to other staff members involved in the distribution and provision of the chlamydia screening kits.
General ‘Asc’, C-Card and chlamydia screening training and updates will be offered through the Coventry CSP and Coventry City Council on a regular basis.
