Description

This service will require the pharmacist or delegated member of the pharmacy’s staff to supervise the consumption of prescribed medicines at the point of dispensing in the pharmacy, ensuring that the dose has been administered to the service user.

The pharmacy will provide support and advice to the service users, including referral to other primary care services or specialist substance misuse services where appropriate.

Training

  • All pharmacists will be required to complete the CPPE Declaration of Competence for Supervised Administration of prescribed medication. It is recommended that all registered pharmacy technicians complete the same declaration. The declaration will need to be confirmed on PharmOutcomes via enrolment.
  • A representative from the pharmacy may be required to attend an annual training event.
  • The accredited pharmacist should attend the initial training and accreditation evening organised by LloydsPharmacy and CGL before commencing the service.
  • LloydsPharmacy and CGL should arrange at least one contractor meeting per year to promote service development and update the knowledge of the accredited pharmacist.
