HLP, Health Promotion, Campaigns & Signposting

HLP is changing in Bolton with the launch of the Public Health England  framework for Level 1 and the new GM framework.

Pharmacies who were previously accredited by Bolton Council in November 2015 will move over to the GM Framework:

  • You must have a have a copy of the signed and dated certificate that demonstrates that you were accredited – If you have misplaced this please contact the LPC. This will mean that  you will not need to go through the profession-led self-assessment process led by PHE to qualify for the pharmacy quality payment criterion at this time, providing you have a Pharmacist who has completed the Leadership training and an accredited Health Champion.
  • You will be expected to work within the new GM HLP Framework to maintain your accreditation. Supporting documents can be accessed via the tabs to the left. The LPC is available to offer support – please contact Louise Gatley louisegatley@btinternet.com

Those pharmacies that were not previously accredited and wish to become a HLP must meet the set criteria and then complete the framework developed by Public Health England:

The criteria are as follows:

  • The pharmacy has a consultation room which is compliant with the Advanced Services standards and is appropriate for the services on offer.
  • In the past year, the pharmacy has participated in the provision of both Medicines Use Reviews and the New Medicine Service, and has proactively engaged in health promoting conversations.
  • In the past year, the pharmacy has participated in the provision of the NHS Community Pharmacy Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Advanced Service or has actively referred patients to other NHS providers of vaccinations.
  • The pharmacy complies with the General Pharmaceutical Council’s Standards for Registered Premises and Standards of Conduct, Ethics and Performance (www.pharmacyregulation.org/standards).
  • The pharmacy complies with the NHS Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) requirements (psnc.org.uk/contract).

You must then meet the quality criteria set by PHE to become a Healthy Living Pharmacy (HLP) Level 1 status. The evidence you put together will help you towards achieving and maintaining your HLP status. The specific criteria are detailed in this document here.

These standards and requirements must be met prior to the completion of the HLP assessment of compliance.

Full details of how to meet these criteria can be found on the PSNC website:

We ask that all pharmacies also work towards the GM Framework;  this follows the national framework, but also asks that you collect some data to support us in demonstrating the real value of pharmacy. Data is submitted via PharmOutcomes in the services tab –   copy of the data collection form can be download here GM HLP Health Conversation Form (Final)

There is also an assessment in the assessment tab that you may find useful to track your progress.

Supporting documents, signposting, local and national information can be accessed using the tabs to the left.
