Dementia Friendly Pharmacy Framework

On Wednesday 27th July 2016, Bolton LPC in partnership with the LPN, GMHSC and Bolton Council launched the First Dementia Friendly Pharmacy Framework in Greater Manchester (We hope that other areas of Greater Manchester will join the framework over the next few months). The Framework which was developed by the LPN will guide pharmacy teams to find out more about dementia and the small changes that could make a difference to people living in their community.

With over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK and over 3000 in Bolton pharmacy teams are ideally placed to support people and their carers to live well with dementia.

Bolton LPC will arrange Dementia Friends and CPPE training when needed and will also ensure that pharmacies are aware of other training that is available across Bolton.

The LPC will ensure that pharmacies have up to date local and national signposting information in the pharmacy and know where to obtain resources to support their patients.

Pledge 2 – Collaborative working

The LPC will work with strategic partners at the Local Authority, NHSE and the CCG to assist in the development of referral pathways. We will ensure that pharmacy is considered when models of care and care pathway are developed.

Pledge 3 – Dementia Friendly Pharmacy Framework

With support from the LPN, the LPC will launch the Dementia Friendly Pharmacy Framework which has been developed in Greater Manchester.

The LPC will support pharmacies to deliver this framework over a period of 6-12 months with the aim of have 70% of pharmacies meeting the requirements by July 2017.
