Serious Shortage Protocols

The first 3 SSPs were issued on 3rd September as indicated in the DHSC e-mail below.

Contractors will be notified by e-mail to their shared NHS e-mail and PSNC will also send a newsletter to contractors. The SSPs are on the NHSBSA website at https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/pharmacies-gp-practices-and-appliance-contractors/serious-shortage-protocols-ssps and there is also guidance available on the NHSBSA website.

PSNCs initial briefing and information on SSPs that can be found at https://psnc.org.uk/dispensing-supply/psnc-briefings-dispensing-and-supply/psnc-briefing-023-19-serious-shortage-protocols-ssps-a-guide-for-community-pharmacy-teams-june-2019/ A further briefing will published  on these 3 SSPs shortly at http://psnc.org.uk/

For the avoidance of doubt, the only alternatives that may be supplied in accordance with an SSP are those stated in the specific SSP and only subject to the conditions etc in the SSP.

Finally, the additional SSP fee is £5.35 per supply (the usual reimbursement and remuneration DT rules apply to the alternative supply permitted by the SSP) and contractors’ transition payments for this year include, amongst other provisions, preparation for SSPs.
