Oldham news & updates
Oldham CURE pilot update from GMHSCP
GMHSCP have provided the below update with regards to the CURE smoking cessation pilot. Contractors participating will receive a copy of the below comms via NHS mail, we advise that the letter provided is printed and kept on file as the SLA has not yet been updated.
The Pharmacy Integration funded smoking cessation pilot that commenced in Oldham in November 2020 has continued during the covid-19 pandemic. There has not been the system capacity to roll-out to further pilot sites, and as a result there is a requirement to collect more data and then hopefully extend the pilots into additional locations. The Pharmacy Integration team are working with the national smoking cessation team to receive clarification of their plan for mobilising their secondary care early implementer sites in other areas, and to establish a small number of community pharmacy pilot sites in addition to Oldham where appropriate.
We are pleased to advise that we will extend the SLAs with all the pharmacies in the smoking pilots to the end of July 2021 and will update the documents on the NHS BSA website. It will be assumed that those pharmacies participating in the pilots will continue to provide the service unless they decide to opt-out.
No additional registration with the BSA will NOT be necessary, this will automatically continue to roll on until 31st July 2021. We will keep you informed of any further changes to this pilot.
Pharmacy teams in Oldham now have access to free oral health resources including leaflets, fliers and posters to give oral health advice for all ages.
For National Smile Month 2020 all teams will receive resources to promote the campaign, helping to support your portfolio of evidence to demonstrate you are a Healthy Living Pharmacy.
Nutrition & hydration pilot
Pharmacy teams can get resources to help improve nutrition and hydration in older and vulnerable people in Oldham, as part of a new pilot in some areas of Greater Manchester. The resources available include staff training/education, information booklets for patients/customers, and paper armbands that help identify people who may be at risk due to low BMI. Pharmacies may also find this visual checklist helpful. For more information, contact your local project lead: Marie Price, 07764 734745, firstname.lastname@example.org.
