COVID-19 Update – Safety Measures for Community Pharmacies

November 11, 2020

In light of the new lockdown measures and the increasing pressure this puts on healthcare services, please read the below guidance to ensure the correct measures are put in place to deliver safe services at your pharmacies.

Pharmacy teams must do the following:

  • Ensure staff wear correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – click here.
  • Check they are registered on the national portal to order more PPE – guidance on how to access the portal can be found here under ‘PPE Supplies’.
  • Conduct personal risk assessments with staff members – guidance can be found here under ‘Individual staff risk assessments’.
  • Conduct risk assessment of premises – guidance found here under ‘security and personal safety’.
  • Ensure their business continuity plans are up-to-date – guidance on business continuity planning can be found here.
  • Update opening hours on the NHS website – guidance on closures or making changes to your opening hours can be found here.

GMLPC are currently working with the NHSE/I team to develop further guidance and advice on closures and amended opening hours. We will keep you updated as soon as we have further information.

An emergency closures checklist can be found here.

If you have issues with pharmacy operations or if there is an increase in the duration of prescriptions for your pharmacy, please get in touch with the LPC so we can support and advise you by feeding this information to the national team.
