GMLPC showcases community pharmacy at NHS England event

March 15, 2019

Health commissioners and providers from across the north of England heard how community pharmacies could enable Primary Care Networks to achieve their goals in a presentation by Greater Manchester LPC (GMLPC) at a major NHS England event in Manchester on Wednesday (13th March).

GMLPC Chair Aneet Kapoor and committee member Fin Mc Caul argued that PCNs should realise the potential of community pharmacies to play a greater role in urgent care, long-term condition management and improving population health. They delivered the presentation jointly with pharmacy commissioner Steve Riley, who is Senior Primary Care Manager for Pharmacy & Optometry at Greater Manchester Health & Social Care Partnership.

Aneet, Fin and Steve also explained how GMLPC and commissioners are working together to simplify local commissioning and improve the process for pharmacies, patients and commissioners. You can see their slides here.

The half-day event was organised by NHS England to update health and social care sector in the north of England on plans for Primary Care Networks as part of the Long-Term Plan, and to hear their views on how PCNs could work.
