Priadel Supply Update

Priadel Supply Update
November 27, 2020
Action for contractors : Please note the Change in Price and do not request switches from Priadel to other Lithium preparations
Following complaints from many patients, professional and clinical bodies, including the NHS in Greater Manchester, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched an investigation into Essential Pharma’s proposed withdrawal of Priadel to UK patients.
As a result of the opening of the CMA’s investigation, Essential Pharma has agreed with the DHSC a revised price for Priadel. Essential Pharma has offered formal commitments to the CMA to address competition concerns which last for 5 years.
These include a moderate price increase for Priadel – £7.50 for 200mg tablets per pack and £8.50 for 400mg tablets per pack.
This increase will take effect in the December Drug Tariff.

Actions for community pharmacy:
- Please reassure patients that their supply of Priadel will continue and that they should not be switching medication (unless due to a clinical review with their specialist team).
- If you have any difficulties in obtaining supplies of Priadel – do not offer a switch to an alternative brand or strength of Lithium.
- Please inform PSNC of any shortages so that sufficient stock can be placed in the supply chain and evidence of Essential Pharma’s adherence to its commitments are recorded.
