Contract & Service Information
Community pharmacy services
Pharmacy services fall into three categories, which are commissioned differently. The NHS Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework sets out the arrangements and criteria. You can access the final package for 2016/17 here. The Quality Payments section of our website explains how pharmacies can achieve this funding.
Essential services – all contractors provide these under the NHS Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF). They are commissioned by NHS England and include general advice and dispensing of prescriptions.
Advanced Services – these are services within CPCF that pharmacies can provide if they meet the requirements set out by the Health Secretary. They are funded by NHS England. The services are: MUR, NMS, flu vaccination, appliance use reviews, stoma appliance customisation, and the new NUMSAS service (NHS Urgent Medicine Supply Advanced Service). To meet the Quality Payments gateway criteria, pharmacies must provide MUR, NMS or be registered to provide NUMSAS.
Locally-commissioned enhanced services – these are services that may be commissioned by CCGs or local authorities, depending on local need and priorities, rather than on a national level. They include emergency contraception, needle and syringe exchange, supervised consumption of methadone, etc.
NOTE: If you would like information/advice about how to get commissioned to provide an advanced or local enhanced service, contact us on 0161 228 6163 or via email@example.com.
