NUMSAS (NHS Urgent Medicine Supply Advanced Service)

The NHS Urgent Medicine Supply Advanced Service – or NUMSAS, as it has become known – is a pilot enabling patients to obtain urgent medicines from community pharmacies, where appropriate. It was rolled out in North West England from January 2017.

Eligible patients are referred from NHS 111 to pharmacies providing the service. The service specification and associated guidance provides further information about eligibility, criteria for dispensing medicine through the scheme, and how to claim payment.

NHS England has produced a NUMSAS toolkit to support contractors (v2 April 2018).

You can access further information via the NUMSAS section of the PSNC website or by contacting the GMLPC office with any queries.

Watch our recorded webinar on ‘All you need to know about NUMSAS’ (12th Dec 2017) and download the slides and top tips. (Note: The webinar was recorded before changes to the NUMSAS claims process in January 2018. Claims should now be submitted with the monthly submission but in a separate envelope marled ‘NUMSAS’.)

NHS England has also run NUMSAS briefing events for contractors in Greater Manchester. The slides from their March 2017 event provide more information.
