New Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS) for 2020/21 has been developed

New Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS) for 2020/21 has been developed

July 20, 2020

It is an ESSENTIAL CRITERIA checklist which includes a list of actions that must be completed by any contractor wishing to claim a payment.

The focus of Part 1 of the scheme is ensuring community pharmacy contractors and their teams have put in place all reasonable measures to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, protecting both themselves and the people using their services.

This recognises the work many pharmacy contractors have already completed as a result of COVID-19 to ensure a safer environment for all staff and people who visit the pharmacy.

Key points on meeting the requirements of the new scheme:

Contractors need to complete all 14 actions set out in the checklist (see below); all of which relate to the response to the pandemic.  Contractors must:

  • Complete actions in full to qualify for £1,630 payment
  • Claim payment on NHS Business Services Authority (NHS BSA) Manage Your Service website by the 5thof the month after completion.
  • Completing & declaring actions of Part 1 before 29 January 2021 is a prerequisite to qualify for Part 2 (details to be released by Sept 2020)

Full details of the checklist can be found in the Drug Tariff determination on the NHS BSA website.

It is vital to complete Part 1:

  • Pharmacy contractors should note that they must complete and declare the completion of Part 1 in order to qualify for any payments in respect of any completion and declaration of Part 2.
  • Contractors are encouraged to complete this as soon as possible.
  • Total funding for both parts is worth £75 million.
