CPPE urgent care campaign

Urgent or unplanned care leads to at least 100 million NHS calls or visits each year, which represents about one third of overall NHS activity and more than half the costs.  Approximately one quarter of accident and emergency attendances could have been treated elsewhere. At this time of year it seems every day brings fresh news stories about the pressures on the urgent and emergency care system. Please join CPPE in our urgent care learning campaign. This consists of a distance learning programme and a number of weekly challenges. One of these challenges is about raising the profile of pharmacy as a provider of urgent care. Perhaps you will display information about relevant services in the pharmacy or write articles local newsletters and media.

Opportunities for community pharmacists to reduce the burden on other providers of urgent care include;

  • Emergency supplies of prescribed medicines which can be done via our locally commissioned service
  • Supporting self-care and the Pharmacy First minor ailment scheme in Nottingham City and relevant parts of Nottinghamshire County
  • Providing flu vaccines
  • Minimising adverse effects and admissions or readmissions related to medicines and supporting people with long-term conditions to get the most benefit from their medicines for example during MURs
  • Helping people understand new medicines for example by offering the New Medicine Service to every eligible patient

Forthcoming local CPPE events include:
