Dementia Focal Point

Wednesday, 4 March, 2020

Dementia has become one of the most important health and care challenges of our time!

Whilst there is, currently, no cure for dementia as a pharmacy professional you are well placed to support patients ‘live well with dementia’, not defining them by solely their dementia but also helping with other long-term health conditions they may be living with. By providing holistic, person centred care you can make a positive difference and help ensure your patient’s achieve their best quality of life.

Within the Dementia Focal Point event there will be several key areas covered, detailed below, to support you to better understand the different types of dementia and the associated risk factors and develop your knowledge to help deliver improved outcomes and support both patient and carer. Through the interactive and relaxed Focal Point format you will have time for practical learning around case studies and the opportunity to share ideas, experiences and discussion with your colleagues

  • the different types of dementia and their presentation, assessment and diagnosis
  • lifestyle choices that can reduce the risk of developing dementia
  • the holistic and pharmacological treatment options for people living with dementia
  • ways in which pharmacy teams can improve outcomes for people living with dementia, and how to support the person, their families and carers.
