The recently formed Nottinghamshire Local Professional Network for pharmacy will provide clinical leadership in medicines optimisation and will develop the role of community pharmacy in supporting self care and helping patients to manage long term conditions effectively

From April 2013, the NHS National Commissioning Board will be responsible for planning, securing and monitoring high quality primary care services, including community pharmacy.

In Nottinghamshire we are developing arrangements which place our local professional network (LPN) of pharmacists close to where community pharmacy commissioning decisions are being made and will enable effective local pharmacy service planning for the future.

A core group has been formed with representation from CCGs, Health and Wellbeing Boards, Academia, the Local Professional Forum, Secondary care, Healthwatch and the LPC.  Terms of reference for the core group have been agreed.

The LPN is developing a workplan and strategy.  The draft workplan can be downloaded here.  Task and finish groups will be established to complete the objectives in the workplan.

As the work plan develops there will be the opportunity for wider pharmacy representation and input. Please contact Sam Travis, LPN Lead Pharmacist, Samantha.travis@nhs.net or contact the LPC if you would like further information or if you are interested in getting involved.
