Class 1 CAS alert: Unsolicited packages to health-related organisations

Class 1 CAS alert: Unsolicited packages to health-related organisations

August 3, 2018

Date issued: 2nd august 2018

The Chief Medical Officer has issued a class 1 alert via the Central Alerting system (CAS) to highlight that an organisation identifying itself as ‘The Cyrus Project’ has sent unsolicited packages, with accompanying literature requesting testing on an enclosed sample, to a number of health-related organisations over the last 24 hours.

Public Health England has confirmed initial testing on packages received to date shows it is highly unlikely the substance contained therein is hazardous. However, as a precautionary measure, community pharmacy teams are advised to take a number of actions if they receive a package, which are highlighted in the CAS alert.
