COVID-19: Extending access to SCR for locums

April 28, 2020

NHS Digital have extended access to the NHS Summary Care Record (SCR) to support community pharmacy teams to work efficiently and flexibly in response to COVID-19 in an initiative supported by PSNC and NHS England and NHS Improvement.

This also provides extended access to the Shielded Patients Flag, visible within SCR, for those pharmacists working at multiple sites.

SCR access is being granted to all those with the pharmacist 5F multi-site code on their smartcard, by the addition of a new roles – National Locum Pharmacist + SCR – COVID-19 and National Locum Technician + SCR – COVID-19. The new codes will automatically expire by summer 2021 unless a further extension is granted.

The adjustment of roles on Smartcards will be undertaken centrally with no action required by pharmacy team members.

Read more within the Smartcards section of this website and PSNC’s updated Smartcard multi-site and SCR usage briefing.

Update: The changes to cards with the technician role was performed after this news article was originally published.
