Dispensing errors in registered pharmacies

On 16 April 2018, the Pharmacy (Preparation and Dispensing Errors – Registered Pharmacies) Order 2018 will come into effect.

From this date, legal defences will be available for inadvertent preparation and dispensing errors under section 63 and section 64 of the Medicines Act 1968, made by registered pharmacy professionals working at or from registered pharmacies.

It is anticipated that further information will be available from the Department of Health and Social Care in due course.
