Health Harms campaign returns for 2018/19

Health Harms campaign returns for 2018/19

December 18, 2018

The Smokefree Health Harms campaign, now in its seventh year, will launch again on 28th December 2018 and will run throughout January 2019. The campaign continues to encourage smokers to stop smoking in the new year, by highlighting the immediate personal harm every time a cigarette is smoked.

The Smokefree campaign provides a great opportunity to boost quit attempts. Public Health England (PHE) has created a campaign toolkit to help community pharmacy teams promote the campaign and encourage smokers to quit.

The community pharmacy campaign toolkit consists of:

  • 1 x pharmacy activation guide;
  • 2 x A4 Hope posters (ask us for free advice);
  • 50 x A5 leaflets; and
  • 1 x A5 leaflet dispenser

The toolkits include an activation guide, which gives an overview of the campaign and information on how community pharmacy teams can get involved.

Community pharmacy teams who wish to take part can order the campaign toolkit, free of charge, from the PHE Campaign Resource Centre.

Additional resources

All pharmacy teams who are planning to participate in the campaign are reminded of the Holding an awareness event/campaign on smoking page on the PSNC website and PSNC Briefing 011/17: Healthy Living Pharmacy – Holding a health promotion event/campaign.

Cancer Research UK recently published an edition of Cancer Insight aimed at pharmacists and pharmacy staff, which focusses on smoking cessation. Other practical resources are also available from Cancer Research UK on smoking cessation.
