Medicine Supply Notification: Salazopyrin En-Tabs (sulfasalazine) 500mg tablets

Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has today issued a medicine supply notification for Salazopyrin En-Tabs (sulfasalazine) 500mg tablets

Pfizer are out of stock of Salazopyrin En-Tabs until early December 2020

Generic versions of sulfasalazine 500mg gastro-resistant tablets remain available

UKMI have advised there are no known differences in bioavailability between the branded and generic productsa and they can be considered interchangeable

A Serious Shortage Protocol (SSP) was issued on 20/10/2020 further details can be found here

For patients with insufficient supplies, community pharmacists may supply sulfasalazine gastro-resistant 500mg tablets against the SSP for eligible patients.

The DHSC Medicine Supply Team provide a monthly update on potential supply issues affecting both primary and secondary care. This update is uploaded on the Specialist Pharmacy Services (SPS) website. To register, you will need  an NHS email address. Once set up and logged in, you will be able to access it online.

New shortages not listed on the SPS website, can be reported using our shortage reporting tool.
