New NHS England and NHS Improvement PCN resources for LPCs and pharmacy teams

June 18, 2019

NHS England and NHS Improvement has published two key guidance documents around Primary Care Networks (PCNs):

Primary Care Networks: A briefing for pharmacy teams

This informative briefing is aimed at pharmacy teams across the NHS, including those working in community pharmacy. It contains key background information on PCNs: their structure, function, the role of clinical directors and how they fit in the NHS.

Guidance for Local Pharmaceutical Committees (LPCs) – How to help contractors get involved with Primary Care Networks

Published in partnership with PSNC, the British Medical Association and the other pharmacy organisations, this briefing is aimed at LPCs to help them get their contractors involved with PCNs. It outlines to LPCs a recommended four-step process to support contractor engagement with PCNs, and key timescales for initial community pharmacy engagement with PCNs.

Further guidance from NHS England will also be published in due course and will provide clarity on the developing role of community pharmacy within PCNs as the PCNs develop in maturity, as well as information on the working relationships between community pharmacies and PCNs.

PSNC is currently developing further guidance and resources to support contractors and LPCs around PCNs. More information on PCN resources can be found on
