Nutilis Clear Product Update – New Scoop and Mixing Instructions

November 30, 2018

Tins of Nutilis Clear are only suitable for use if they display a prominent red sticker on the lid. Tins without a red sticker are no longer suitable for use.

The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the British Dietetic Association have advocated the adoption of the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) framework for thickening drinks using standard terminology with a colour and numerical index to describe texture modification for food and drink. Thickened drinks are changing from ‘Stage 1, 2 and 3’ to IDDSI Levels 1 – 4. Manufacturers will be changing their labelling and instructions accordingly and aim to complete this by April 2019.

A resource alert has been issued to assist with the safe transition to the IDDSI framework including a timescale flyer

To meet these changes, the scoop spoons in the tins of Nutilis Clear are changing from a purple 3g scoop to a green 1.25g scoop with new IDDSI directions for use on the label (see tables below).

Community pharmacy teams will need to ensure a patient is aware of the change in the scoop size and the number of scoops required and that any prescription directions are correct. If in doubt seek clarification from the managing healthcare professional e.g. GP, Dietician, Speech and Language Therapist.

Nutricia Ltd have issued the following guidance.
