Part VIIIB February 2019 Drug Tariff changes

Part VIIIB February 2019 Drug Tariff changes

January 30, 2019

Effective from 1st February 2019, the following unlicensed (special) products will be deleted from Part VIIIB of the Drug Tariff:

Clobetasone 0.05%/Oxytetracycline 3%/Nystatin 100,000units/g cream
Clonidine 50micrograms/5ml oral solution
Clonidine 50micrograms/5ml oral suspension

Licensed alternatives for these products (listed below) which are now available will be added to Part VIIIA of Drug Tariff in February 2019.

Clobetasone 0.05%/Oxytetracycline 3%/Nystatin 100,000units/g cream (Trimovate Cream)
Clonidine 50micrograms/5ml oral solution sugar free (Thame Laboratories Ltd)

Any changes to Part VIII of the Drug Tariff impacts reimbursement so it is important to take note when amendments are made to product listings.

Pharmacy staff are advised to take care in ensuring that any prescriptions for the unlicensed products dispensed in January are submitted for payment no later than the 5th February 2019 to ensure your prescriptions are processed in the correct month (for EPS prescriptions the dispense notification must be submitted by the 31st January 2019 with the corresponding claim notification sent no later than the 5th of February 2019). Please note that if any prescriptions for unlicensed products listed above are inadvertently submitted with your February bundle, you would be reimbursed as per the February Drug Tariff Part VIIIA rules and would not be able to claim the ‘SP’ fee for supplying the unlicensed product.

Other Part VIIIB additions

Effective from 1st February 2019 Sertraline 25mg/5ml oral suspension (STD, SF) will be added to Part VIIIB of the Drug Tariff.

Pharmacy staff are advised to take care in ensuring that any prescriptions for Sertraline 25mg/5ml oral suspension (sourced under a manufacturer’s specials/importer’s licence issued by the MHRA) which were dispensed in January are endorsed as per the guidance for unlicensed medicines which are not listed in Part VIIIB of the Drug Tariff and submitted for payment no later than the 5th February 2019 to ensure your prescriptions are processed in the correct month (for EPS prescriptions the dispense notification must be submitted by the 31st January 2019 with the corresponding claim notification sent no later than the 5th of February 2019).

Please note that if any prescriptions for Sertraline 25mg/5ml oral suspension are inadvertently submitted with your February bundle, you would be reimbursed as per the Part VIIIB February Drug Tariff list price.
