PNA guidance for local authority health and wellbeing boards

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has today published guidance on Pharmaceutical Needs Assessments (PNAs).

PNAs are a crucial part of the market entry system, and support commissioning decisions based on patient needs. HWBs must prepare PNAs to national comparable standards and the new DHSC guidance to Health and Wellbeing Boards updates the existing guidance available for local authority HWBs.

The guidance provides information on the legislative background, an overview of the PNA process (from gathering health and demographic data to consultation and publication), the required engagement with members of the public and relevant contractors, and the information to be included in PNAs.

PSNC’s PNA guidance for LPCs will follow shortly.
