PQS: CPPE learning and e-assessments now available

PQS: CPPE learning and e-assessments now available

August 15, 2019

The Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) has  published their four main learning and e-assessments linked to the 2019/20 Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS). Pharmacy professionals are therefore encouraged to make a start on completing the learning and e-assessments as the next step for participating in PQS.

Gateway criterion: Level 2 safeguarding

There are four gateway criteria that community pharmacy contractors need to meet, one of which is:

80% of all pharmacy professionals have achieved Level 2 safeguarding status for children and vulnerable adults in the last two years.

Level 2 safeguarding training may be available to pharmacy staff locally (for example, organised by local authorities or other providers) or via CPPE.

It is important to note that the gateway criterion requires pharmacy professionals to have completed this within the last two years from the day of declaration (this is likely to be in February 2020; however, this has not been confirmed yet). Therefore, pharmacy professionals who have completed Level 2 safeguarding should review when this was completed, in case there is a need for them to repeat this.

Quality criteria: Risk management and safety composite bundle

As part of the Risk management and safety composite bundle, 80% of pharmacy professionals are required to have completed the:

  • CPPE risk management training and e-assessment;
  • CPPE sepsis online training (completion of six short case studies) and e-assessment; and
  • CPPE Reducing look-alike, sound-alike (LASA) errors e-learning and e-assessment.

Further information and links to the above CPPE e-learning and e-assessments for the Risk management and safety composite bundle can be found on the Pharmacy Quality Scheme – Getting Started page on the CPPE website.

It is important to note that completion of the above learning and e-assessments does not mean a contractor fully meets the Risk management and safety composite bundle. There are other criteria to this composite bundle that contractors need to meet to be able to claim payment for this bundle. The other criteria that contractors need to meet for this composite bundle are listed in PSNC Briefing 029/19: The Pharmacy Quality Scheme.

PSNC resources

PSNC has developed pages on their website for the above criteria, which contractors are encouraged to read before completing the learning and e-assessments, as well as record sheets, which contractors can choose to use to keep a record of the pharmacy professionals who have undertaken the above learning and e-assessments.
