PQS: Diabetes quality criterion – are you ready to start working towards this from tomorrow?

September 30, 2019

Community pharmacy contractors are reminded that if they intend to meet the diabetes quality criterion of the Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS), they must start working towards this from tomorrow (1st October 2019) and continue with this until 31st January 2020.

Further guidance on how to meet the quality criterion can be found in: PSNC Briefing 043/19: Pharmacy Quality Scheme – Foot and eye screening (retinopathy) checks for patients with diabetes.

The diabetes quality criterion is one of five quality criteria that contractors must meet if they wish to claim for the Prevention domain of the PQS (contractors must meet all quality criteria in a domain to be eligible to claim for that domain). This domain is worth 25 points and has a value of between £1,600 – £3,200 (funding will be divided between qualifying pharmacies based on the number of points they have achieved. Payments will be made to eligible contractors depending on how many domains they have met and hence points claimed).

Further information on the PQS can be found on the PQS hub on the PSNC website.
