PQS: Have you started your valproate and lithium audits yet?

PQS: Have you started your valproate and lithium audits yet?

November 26, 2019

Community pharmacy contractors are reminded of the need to complete their valproate and lithium* audits over a three-month consecutive period to meet these two quality criterion for the Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS). If contractors have not yet started these audits, they are encouraged to start these as soon as possible as the final day by which contractors must have started the audits, to ensure they have enough time to complete these by the PQS declaration deadline, is Friday 29th November.

If contractors leave starting the audit until Friday 29th November, this will mean that contractors will have to make their declaration on the final day of the PQS declaration window (28th February 2020) after the pharmacy has closed for the day to have completed the audit over a three month consecutive period. Contractors are therefore strongly encouraged to start these audits before this date to reduce the risk of missing the deadline and to allow themselves more flexibility on the date on when they make their PQS declaration.

Further information on how to meet the valproate audit quality criterion can be found at: psnc.org.uk/pqsvalproate

Further information on how to meet the lithium audit* can be found at: psnc.org.uk/pqslithium

*Contractors are only required to complete ONE audit to meet this quality criterion in the following order of preference: lithium; methotrexate; amiodarone; or phenobarbital. See PSNC Briefing 054/19  which guides contractors through the process of selecting the correct audit to complete to meet the quality criterion.
