PQS: NHS Digital Weight Management Programme resources

The NHS Digital Weight Management Programme has produced two resources to assist community pharmacy contractors with referring patients to the programme.

Pharmacy teams are required to have referred at least one patient* (who meets the criteria for referral) to either a Local Authority funded tier 2 weight management service or the NHS Digital Weight Management Programme as part of the requirements for the Healthy living support Domain of the 2021/22 Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS).

The first resource is a 12 minute video explaining how a member of the pharmacy team can make a referral to the NHS Digital Weight Management Programme.

The second resource is a screen saver which can be used to promote the programme.

Further information has also been added to the NHS Digital Weight Management Programme page on the NHS England and NHS Improvement website including details on why the programme is important and who can access the programme.

* If contractors are unable to identify a patient who meets the criteria and agrees to be referred to either a Local Authority funded tier 2 weight management service or the NHS Digital Weight Management Programme, they cannot claim for the Referral stage (e.g.5 points for band 4) of the Healthy living support Domain. However, they can claim for the Intervention stage (e.g. 15 points for band 4) if they meet all of the other requirements in the Domain.
