PQS: Update your NHS website profile and your DoS profile now

October 1, 2019

Community pharmacy contractors can from today, update or validate their NHS website profile in order to meet the NHS website gateway criterion and edit or confirm their Directory of Services (DoS) profile to meet the DoS quality criterion of the Digital enablers domain of the Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS).

Contractors are required to complete both of the above between 00.00 on 1st October 2019 and 11:59pm on 30th November 2019 to meet the NHS website gateway criterion and the DoS quality criterion. Please note, the period for updating both the NHS website profiles and the DoS quality criterion is ahead of the declaration period, which is different to previous schemes. If contractors miss this deadline, they will not meet the gateway criteria (as well as not meeting one of the quality criteria of the Digital enablers domain) and will therefore NOT be entitled to claim a PQS payment in February 2020.

NHS website gateway criterion

Contractors must update or validate the  three sections of their pharmacy’s NHS website profile to meet the NHS website gateway criterion. Contractors must validate their profile even if their NHS website profile is correct, otherwise they will not meet the gateway criterion and will therefore not be entitled to claim for a PQS payment.

Contractors must edit or validate:

  1. their opening hours, including the following Bank Holidays:
Wednesday 25th December 2019 Christmas Day 2019
Thursday 26th December 2019 Boxing Day 2019
Wednesday 1st January 2020 New Year’s Day 2020
Friday 10th April 2020 Good Friday 2020
Sunday 12th April 2020 Easter Sunday 2020*
Monday 13th April 2020 Easter Monday 2020
Friday 8th May 2020 Early May Bank Holiday 2020
Monday 25th May 2020 Spring Bank Holiday 2020
  1. the facilities the pharmacy provides e.g. consultation room, parking, etc.; and
  2. the services the pharmacy provides, e.g. Medicines Use Reviews (MURs), New Medicine Service (NMS), etc.

A User Guide is available on the NHS website , which provides step-by-step instructions on how to update or validate a pharmacy’s NHS website profile.

In addition, if contractors are intending to declare that they meet the Advanced Services gateway criterion because they offer NMS or the NHS community pharmacy seasonal influenza vaccination service, they should ensure the service is listed on the pharmacy’s NHS website profile as this will be used as one of the datasets to validate whether a contractor meets the Advanced Services gateway criterion.

*Although Easter Sunday is not officially a bank holiday, NHS England and NHS Improvement has requested that contractors add their opening hours for this date to assist local NHS England and NHS Improvement teams and DoS leads so they know which pharmacies will be open over the Easter weekend.

Distance selling pharmacies (DSPs)

DSPs should follow the process outlined on pages 14-16 in the NHS England and NHS Improvement guidance to meet the NHS website gateway criterion.

Further information on how to meet the NHS website gateway criterion can be found at: psnc.org.uk/pqsnhswebsite.

Directory of Services quality criterion

Contractors are required to edit or confirm the information about their pharmacy is correct on the DoS Profile Updater, which includes information on bank holiday opening hours (the same as for the NHS website gateway criterion listed above). This process is the same for ‘bricks and mortar’ pharmacies and DSPs.

Guidance on how to edit or confirm the information about a pharmacy is correct is available on the DoS Profile Updater website (this can also be accessed by clicking on ‘Help’ at the bottom of the screen on the DoS profile updater homepage). Contractors are strongly advised to read the guidance to ensure they fully understand how to meet the quality criterion.

Once the details on the DoS Profile Updater have been edited or confirmed and then submitted, the contractor will receive an email to confirm this. This email should be retained as evidence of meeting the DoS quality criterion.

Further information on how to meet the DoS quality criterion can be found at: psnc.org.uk/pqsdos.
