PSNC election cycle begins in January 2023

In the New Year, PSNC will start its election cycle for the new committee of PSNC, to be known as Community Pharmacy England (CPE).  This Committee will take up post from 1st April 2023.

Following the recommendations of the Pharmacy Review Steering Group and as part of the Transforming Pharmacy Representation (TAPR) work programme, the PSNC committee agreed in September that changes would be made to the committee’s composition. From April next year, the PSNC/CPE committee will have a smaller number of members, 24 in total, including 10 Independent pharmacy contractors elected by the PSNC regions in England (the Regional Representatives) and 3 non-CCA Independent Multiple representatives elected nationally.

Pharmacists who are Independent pharmacy contractors (as based on the Pharmaceutical Lists from 31st September 2022) and who are members or officers of an LPC in the relevant PSNC region will be eligible for election as a PSNC/CPE Regional Representative. Multiple pharmacy contractors (those with 10 or more NHS pharmacy premises in England or members of the Association of Independent Multiple pharmacies) are eligible to stand in the Non-CCA Multiples elections. Full details for each election are available in the respective PSNC briefing.

The Regional Representatives and Multiple representatives, together with the other members of PSNC/CPE, represent the interests of NHS pharmacy contractors and ensure that PSNC undertakes the functions set out in its Constitution. The Regional Representatives also provide an important conduit between the independent contractors in their region and PSNC/CPE. The term of office for all members of PSNC/CPE will be 4 years, starting on 1st April 2023 and ending on 31st March 2027.

To support those considering standing for election, we have today published detailed guidance setting out the election process and the actions required from those seeking to stand. This guidance also includes a role description for the Regional Representative position, which may be reviewed as part of steps to strengthen governance at CPE during 2023/24. We have published this information now to allow those considering whether to be candidates in either election, to be able to consider this over the Christmas and New Year period, if this is convenient and appropriate.
