PSNC publishes 2019/20 annual report

February 8, 2021

PSNC has today published its 2019/20 annual report, setting out the work that it did on behalf of community pharmacy contractors in the last financial year.

The report covers the key achievements and ongoing projects that PSNC worked on, including the agreement of the first multi-year funding deal for the sector, providing a clear vision for the future of pharmacy. Brexit preparations and new services such as the Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS) were also significant during the year.

By March 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic was having a huge impact on the sector and PSNC had sought emergency funding for pharmacies. The annual report talks more about this work and the impact that COVID-19 has had on the year since then.

The report covers topics including:

  • Supporting contractors through a period of transformation;
  • Welcoming 2.5 million visitors to the PSNC website;
  • Securing the first ever multi-year funding commitment to NHS community pharmacies;
  • Obtaining £300m in COVID-19 advance funding;
  • PSNC’s annual accounts; and
  • Making sure community pharmacy was provided for during no-deal Brexit planning.

PSNC’s work to support contractors through the COVID-19 pandemic has delayed the development and publication of this report but in the interests of transparency, we still wanted to publish an annual report to the sector.

As well as providing details of the work PSNC carried out in 2019/20, the report ends by setting out some of PSNC’s plans, recognising that the impact of COVID-19 in the UK will remain significant.

Simon Dukes, PSNC Chief Executive, said:

“When we started to plan this annual report the topic on everyone’s minds was the five-year CPCF deal: what it meant for the sector, and looking ahead to the rollout of more services. But of course, like so many other things in 2020, our plans to publish this report as soon as our accounts were finalised over the summer, were derailed.

Whilst an annual report can only ever cover some of our work, I hope this account of 2019/20 and the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic gives a sense of the volume of critical work that we are doing and the headway that we are making on a wide range of issues.

Looking ahead we will continue to fight all these battles on your behalf and to work to get the warm words of politicians and NHS officials turned into tangible support. We will also be as honest and open as we can with you about our progress.”
