Public Health England distribute tool to aid conversations about ‘productive healthy ageing’

September 17, 2019

In a follow up from its guidance A Menu of Interventions for Productive Healthy Ageing, published in March 2019, Public Health England (PHE) has distributed* sets of cards which provide information to pharmacy teams on how to support older people to improve the quality of their lives. These cards are designed to guide conversations with older people about productive healthy ageing and cover a range of topics designed to help people stay fitter and healthier for longer.

The easy to use A5 cards are dual-sided to cover information for both pharmacy teams and for the public, and focus on six topics:

  1. Dementia;
  2. Falls prevention;
  3. Improving public mental health;
  4. Malnutrition;
  5. Physical activity; and
  6. Social isolation.

Pharmacy teams may want to use this resource to provide support for older people, for example as part of a Healthy Living Pharmacy public health campaign or event.

A pdf link to this resource will be made available on the Service Development Tools and Publications Hub.

*The cards were distributed with the materials for the antimicrobial resistance and Stoptober national public health campaigns.
