Registration opens for Interim Foundation Pharmacist Programme

Registration opens for Interim Foundation Pharmacist Programme

August 19, 2020

Heath Education England (HEE) has announced that it is now accepting applications to join the Interim Foundation Pharmacist Programme (IFPP).

This new education programme is part of a planned reform of pharmacist education, which has been accelerated to help mitigate the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the 2019/20 cohort of pre-registration pharmacists.

Starting in September 2020, the IFPP is a fully funded 12-month programme that aims to give provisionally registered pharmacists the foundation training support they need. It will help to develop pharmacists’ ability to achieve high quality outcomes for patients, improve patient safety and reduce medication errors.

HEE is sending regular IFPP updates, including FAQs and points of contact. If you wish to receive these, please email fpp@hee.nhs.uk, stating ‘IFPP Updates’ in the subject header.

Stakeholder support

HEE is working with key stakeholders to develop relevant training and support materials.

CPPE programme

The Centre for Postgraduate Pharmacy Education (CPPE) will deliver the IFPP for provisionally registered pharmacists who work in community pharmacy. Learn more on the CPPE website.

Pharmacy professionals may be interested to know that CPPE is currently recruiting new education supervisors to support delivery of the IFPP.

RPS e-portfolio

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has developed a new e-portfolio for foundation pharmacists. Those who join the IFPP will receive funded access to this resource for the 12-month duration of the programme. Access to the e-portfolio also extends to pre-registration pharmacists who have completed their training but have not joined the provisional register.
